How can our organization apply for a grant from The Broad Foundation?
The Broad Foundation requests that every potential applicant thoroughly review the content of this website. Information on grant application guidelines can be found in the Funding Info section of this website.

Does The Broad Foundation accept unsolicited proposals?
The Broad Foundation does not accept unsolicited proposals. Unlike many foundations that have a traditional grant cycle and review process, we proactively seek out investments that align with our mission to dramatically improve urban K-12 public education through better governance, management, labor relations and competition. We are continually on the lookout for urban school districts and organizations that are progressive, led by a strong change agent, and are focused on improving student achievement. Once we have identified a potential investment opportunity, we initiate contact with a prospective grantee organization or individual and invite them to submit additional information.

Which large urban districts are eligible for funding?
At this time, the Foundation is targeting large urban school systems. A complete list can be found on the Eligible Districts page of this website.

Does The Broad Foundation fund outside the United States?
No.

Does The Broad Foundation only fund districts? What about direct funding for university programs or other providers of educational programs and services?
The Foundation funds districts directly for grants that relate exclusively to that particular district. For multi-district initiatives (such as the TURN grant) or national programs (such as the Strategic Support Teams), the Foundation seeks out strategic partners to manage the projects.

Does The Broad Foundation fund individual schools?
No.

Does The Broad Foundation fund research?
The Foundation is interested in action-oriented programs that are innovative and entrepreneurial. The Foundation only considers research proposals that include an actionable implementation agenda. The Foundation also supports research and dissemination projects that actively communicate the results of high potential endeavors.

What initiatives has The Broad Foundation funded so far?
